Dreaming of a White Girl
- We dream each night for only 2 hours, which equates to about 6 years of your life.
- 4 stages in the Sleep Cycle: REM sleep is last stage--most dreaming takes place
- each cycle lasts about 60-90 minutes and will repeat throughout the night
- Most dreams contain negative content
- Dreams allow us to process and memorize information acquired throughout the day.
- Help to relieve stress and solve problems (inner God complex?)
- Average person has about 3 to 5 dreams each night
- Dreams get longer as the night goes on
- Rapid Eye Movement
- 90% of dreams are forgotten after the first 10 minutes of being awake
- To understand dreams:
- Sum it up into a movie title
- figure out the main conflict of the dream
- how would you describe the main conflict of the dream
- are you trying to get away from something
- compare that conflict in the dream to your real-life day before the dream
- Ways to remember your dreams:
- Do NOT move from the position you wake up in--you will disconnect your memory from the dream
- do NOT think about the impending day or tasks or anything besides that dream
- you have 90 seconds before the dream fades to black
- even if you can only remember a tid bit of the dream, write it down...GET IN THE HABIT
