Earthly Companion
by BB

The feline creeps slyly from the darkened room

As the dying man flutters back to his subconscious realm

Reaching these deathly hollows—

The final destination for his beaten mind—

Long since has he traveled this road of sorrow

Passing but one companion along the gnarled path,

A man who travels upon a pale horse.

A man by the name of Death.

They pass for but a moment,

Almost a moment too long,

Not to meet again until his last pilgrimage has come to its end.

Hope strays as he progresses along

For the one he aspired to find here has yet to reveal himself.

That dark figure can find me here

For in the end I will have no fear.
